Working Backwards

Updated: Nov 5

I’m working with a few people who are at a crossroads in their business and/ careers.

There are a common set of emotions around this:

▶ They feel bit lost

▶ Lack of enthusiasm

▶ Unsure if where to go next

▶ Too many choices

▶ Too late to pivot

I’ve been there…a couple of times in my career.

At one point, I was sharing this with my business coach at the time, and they introduced this concept of ‘working backwards’.

The idea is to look back at all the things you’ve done and make a list.

▶ Get rid of the things you hated.

▶ Highlight the ones that give you the most joy…the most passion.

Then take some time to reflect on the highlighted items and ask yourself why they made the cut?

▶ Was it the work itself?

▶ The outcomes it produced for others?

▶ The money you made?

▶ The people you worked with?

Once you have this, go over this with someone you trust...preferably with a coach or mentor…someone who is experienced at providing fresh perspectives.

(friends and family may tend to see you only in the context of how they have known you…and  you want some alternative views).

This can be an effective way to find your next path.

Change is hard and doing new things can stir up some fear.

Knowing your heading towards something you love to do can keep you pushing through all of that.

Are you at a crossroads with your business or career?

DM me and let’s set up a 30m working backwards call and let’s start getting you moving again!
