Every morning, I like to take a little bit of time and set the stage for the day - get back into alignment.
My desire is to present myself into the world to be of service in helping others founded in truth and integrity…
While this resonates with me and it’s how I aspire to be present with others, I have to take some tangible actions to align to this goal.
When I first get up, my brain is already focused on the task list in front of me. Sometimes there is some fear, stress…
I like the expression “Driven by The Tyranny of the Urgent”. It’s not a conscious choice…just my default wiring.
Thankfully, I learned a long time ago…I don’t have to follow that story…I can choose another one.
One effective way for me to ‘realign’ is to have a morning routine that is about self care;
It’s about meditation, affirmations, visualization, exercise….and, what I want to talk about today:
Journaling
Journaling provides a way for me to get my thoughts down…I like the ‘morning pages’ method of just writing whatever I’m thinking. It’s surprising what comes out and sets me back to a creative space (at least in my head :)
I’ve been journaling in the morning for decades. I’ve used my laptop, iPads but it’s very easy to get distracted - my email is a click away…
A few years back, a friend got me into fountain pens. This was great and I still love writing with fountain pens and there are notebooks all over the place.
However, I like having digital copies of my notes and while there are ways to get the notebook data into digital form…I wanted to try something new.
I recently bought the reMarkable 2 notebook. It feels like paper. It’s very lightweight and there are no distractions (just like my paper notebooks) and I’m really enjoying the experience.
I prefer doing this outside but it’s a bit cool now…so I opted to do it where there is a lot of natural light…for me it’s my office.
In another couple of weeks, I’ll be out on my deck…sunshine and fresh air added to the mix!
