I’m pretty sure that is a song lyric…
I’m on a flight back from an overnight trip and I wanted to write about the experience I had…it was powerful.
A dear friend was going through a medical procedure that was pretty risky.
I wanted to be there to support him. He’s someone in my life that exudes a level of service I can only aspire to. He is an inspiring example of how I want to put myself out into the world.
I met him eight years ago and we became friends. He volunteers for many organizations to help as many people as he can in between taking care of kids and being a committed and attentive husband and owner of several businesses.
▶ In the very beginning of COVID, my wife had to be rushed to the ER when I was traveling…he was there.
▶ I had surgery in 2019 and was laid up for weeks…he was there.
▶ Even something as small as a delivery of 2000 pounds of salt was placed right in front of my garage when my wife had to go to work when I was out of town…he dropped what he was doing and went over to help her.
I have a lot more of these but those are some highlights.
They may seem like small things but what I realized, when I came to support him, is that there were close to a dozen other people there who also dropped what they were doing to be with him…they all had similar stories.
This was just more proof for me that small (or large) acts of selfless service can generate so much trust and love….I felt a lot of love for this man from myself and everyone else there…it was powerful.
Thankfully everything went well and he’s fine after the procedure.
I’m going to borrow a quote I heard from a friend recently that I like to remember and put it together with the title of this post:
