Love writing outside... starting to get cool though...
As a business owner, you know you need to delegate more to your leadership team to grow your business.
If you’re still having some of these thoughts:
→ It’s faster if I do it myself
→ I make all the hiring decisions
→ The clients only wants to talk to me
→ It’s a financial decision, only I can handle that
You’re not delegating…
The delegation I’m referring to isn’t just handing off tasks.
I’m talking about empowering your leadership teams so you can focus on vision and strategy.
▶ This requires trust
▶ This requires self awareness
When I work with founders to help them learn about teaching their leadership team how to make decisions in alignment with their thinking, I tell them my own experience.
Anytime my leadership team made a decision that was different than mine, I’d ask myself:
▶ Is there anything I know that they do not?
▶ Are they fully aware of all the other priorities and stakeholders involved?
Most of the time, the answer to one of these questions was no.
They needed more context. This usually resulted in more visibility of data to the leadership team.
The flip side is also true. At times, there was context I was unaware of that made them see things differently.
Delegation for an organization is a bit of a process and a bit of art form.
→ Don’t Micromanage -> Build Trust and Accountability
→ Encourage Conflict -> Create safe environment for healthy discussions
→ Clarity of Expectation -> Clear Accountability and Ownership
→ Empower the Teams -> Decentralize Authority
When done right and you have the right people, the thoughts in your head shift to:
→ My team will make a better decision
→ My team with get this done faster
→ My clients are happier with an entire team supporting them
→ I’m finally free to focus on growth and vision!
If you’ve struggled to delegate in a way that propels your business forward, know that I’ve been there. As a founder and CEO for over 23 years, I’ve seen first-hand how mastering delegation can unlock growth and bring about freedom.
What's one area of delegation you could improve?
Let’s discuss how to empower your team while reclaiming your time.
