Beware of Insatiable Desires!

I had a stark reminder this Father's Day weekend of something I learned in a marketing class years ago…human beings are creatures with insatiable desires. Once we have what we need…we often want more.

My weekend started off with coffee with a close friend followed by meeting another set of friends, family bike rides, more time with friends…it was a wonderful potpourri of face to face human connection, fresh air and exercise.

The following day was even better…

I woke up to my wife and son showing their appreciation with heartfelt cards and time…we celebrated my son graduating 10 years of mandarin classes topped off with a Japanese barb-q…I was having an incredibly rich weekend and I was taking it all in!

Then I had some time to myself (which I asked for BTW)...wife at a yoga class…son slaying the latest boss in his video game…I started feeling discontent…I wanted more…

I wanted more time with my wife…with my son…I didn’t get to see my siblings…

This lasted for a few minutes…

Then I did that thing where I started criticizing myself for having that negative thought…

Now I had two unwanted thoughts! … then I started laughing…”Insatiable Desires”

I’m human…I was a little tired…there is nothing wrong with wanting more…but I received more than I could ever have imagined.

The most significant changes in my business (and life) has been focusing on understanding how to change my mindset and what's going on between my ears.

The same is true when coaching other business owners and team members…working on the mental framing and the problem space they are trying to move past.

Shifting the thought process…not getting caught up in a scarcity mindset can shift your energy towards experiencing positive change…and staying present for those you love.

How do you control your insatiable desires?
